Members of the New Orleans Police Department's Fatality Section are investigating an automobile accident that left 43-year-old Tommie Felix, a 17 year veteran of the New Orleans Police Department dead.  The accident occurred at approximately 2:05 A.M., on the Judge Seeber Bridge and the Industrial Canal.

According to investigators, the bridge was in the up position when the victim drove his vehicle off the bridge into the Industrial Canal.  The New Orleans Police Department along with responding units searched the area and at approximately 11:30 A.M., the United States Coast Guard, using sonar, found his vehicle submerged in the Canal.  After the vehicle was relocated on land, the victim was found inside of the vehicle and was pronounced dead. During the course of the on-investigating, detectives received information that the bridge control arm was not in the down position.  Detectives and D.O.T.D will conduct an investigation to determine the causes of the incident.

Detective Felix is survived by his wife and five children. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers.
